Aloha Hump Day,
Many triathletes have finished and even won the Ironman World Championships.
More than a few have danced & partied in the streets till dawn……but none before, nor after, have completed the weeks events with as much fun and unassuming class as the 1994 World Champion Ironman Greg Welchdid.
After his finish, he partied till the last runner came in and most of the time with his wife Sian Welchon his shoulders.
Paula Newby-Fraseralso won and can be seen next to Welch wearing the loudest shirt ever made. The shot was captured by hanging outside the announcers tower.
He enjoyed his finish more that any triathlete I have ever seen then or now.
He’s a true Ironman “Hall of famer”.
P.S. Yes that’s me in the way of the NBC Sportsphotographer….I was such a rookie.
